Jewel of Langkawi - Pulau Payar Marine Park

There is not one sight as beautiful as that of the underwater world. In fact, those living in Malaysia often do not appreciate just how lucky they are to be in a country where greenery and nature assimilate seamlessly with normal day to day living. It used to be so that traveling to these places would normally cause more harmful to marine life. After all, tourists or travelers would wander far and wide in order to be able to appreciate the splendors on the sea bed. It is then unfortunate that the very act of enjoyment would negatively affect the underwater world.

One of the treasures of Malaysia has to be Pulau Payar Marine Park in Langkawi. It encompasses vast bodies of water that hold beautiful scenery and a myriad of amazing sea creatures. Many people enjoy traveling to Pulau Payar because of its clear waters and great dive sites. Still, it is very important to remember that the marine park is made up of billions of creatures which call it home. That is why it is imperative that we start practicing traveling with a conscience. After all, it is perfectly all right to enjoy holidays - whether at home or abroad. The main thing is to draw the line between enjoyment and destroying the beauty and serenity of the area.

This is definitely true of marine parks in the world. There are actually many things that a traveler can do in order to conserve nature while on holiday. Be mindful of the little things that can actually cause much damage to the ecosystem. For example, ecotravelers would make sure that they are diving around the site without leaving a single trace of their presence. Whenever going anywhere which has a large school of sea creatures, they do as much as possible to ensure that there is nary a ripple effect at all. All these things stem from the feeling that they want to help nature as much as possible and this conscientiousness is the main thing that gives rise to savvy travelers nowadays.

When one talks about conserving marine parks while on holiday, it is basically just ensuring that the natural order or balance of the environment is preserved at all times. Essentially, ecotourism in marine parks seeks to minimize financial and environmental repercussions. This is of course easier said than done especially with the many coastal areas and marine wonders which Malaysia has to offer. Still, there are a group of local-based companies who are keen on taking up the challenge to promote responsible traveling. It doesn't even have to be a big campaign - often times, just being able to raise public awareness of the issues involved is a big help in itself.

One of the main aims of ecotourism is to help the environment and inherently ensure long term sustenance of the site. For example, there are many organizations who work hand in hand to clear off marine debris so that the marine parks can survive a little longer. This not only helps the environment in itself but also has a ripple effect throughout the community. Can you imagine the instance when a marine park is inaccessible simply because it has been badly damaged? This will definitely affect tourism because nobody would want to visit that area anymore. What about the repercussions to the locals living around that area? Bear in mind that tourism would be the mainstay for locals living within marine parks and you will understand why it is so important to safeguard our natural treasures.

It is not an easy journey but as environmental issues take center stage around the world, there are thankfully more travelers and locals who are aware of what is at stake. The main idea would be to increase awareness and coordination between all parties so that millions more can enjoy the beauty and natural wonder of Malaysia's famous marine parks. Tourists - whether from other countries or locals - should also be mindful of how their decisions actually affect the ecosystem. Only with responsible tourism practices can one say that conservation in marine life has been fruitful and effective.
