How to Pour Resin on a Tabletop

    • 1). Create a design for your resin tabletop. You will need a frame around the edge of the table to contain the poured resin. Your resin tabletop can be clear or opaque, or it can seal items decoupaged and arranged on the tabletop.

    • 2). Clean the tabletop before pouring the resin.

    • 3). Calculate the volume of resin you need to pour the tabletop. A lot of resin is required pour a thick tabletop. To calculate, be aware that there are 231 cubic inches per gallon of resin. There are 144 square inches in one square foot of resin. A gallon of poured resin can create a 1/4-inch-thick tabletop covering 6.4 square feet, a 1/2-inch-thick tabletop for 3.2 square feet or a 1-inch-thick tabletop for 1.6 square feet.

    • 4). Mix the resin according to the resin manufacturer's instructions.

    • 5). Pour the resin in thin layers to avoid cracks, ridges or an uneven surface. Remove any air bubbles by heating the poured resin with a hair dryer.

    • 6). Let the resin cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 7). Repeat until you poured the resin tabletop to your desired thickness.

    • 8). Protect the resin surface by adding an acrylic topcoat. Acrylic will reduce damage surface from UV, scratches and heat.
