How to Secure a Pet When Driving
- 1). The best place for a small pet, especially cats, is in a carrier. A yappy restrained dog is much better than an unrestrained one.
- 2). Buy a harness that attaches to the seatbelt for larger dogs or for small dogs that refuse to remain confined. The harness functions like a pet-friendly seatbelt, keeping your dog in place and safe.
- 3). Measure the length of rope when you are securing a dog in the back of a truck. If your dog can easily jump up on the side of the bed, it is too long. A dog that slips can fall over the side and be hung or dragged to death.
- 4). Invest in a camper shell. This is not as safe as having your pet secured, but there are few ways to safely secure your pets, particularly if you travel with more than one. A camper shell keeps them isolated from other passengers, free to move about and even sniff cracked windows. Ultimately, it keeps them safe from falling out of the bed of a truck.
