Install the Applet

• 1). Navigate to the Battery Status download page at Github.com/ia/battery-status in any Web browser.
  
  
• 2). Click on the download link and choose either the ".tar.gz" file or the ".zip" file.
  
  
• 3). Extract the contents of the file.
  
  
• 4). Right-click on the desktop and choose the "Open in Terminal" option to open a terminal window.
  
  
• 5). Navigate into the battery-status directory that was extracted from the downloaded file.
  
  
• 6). Type the following commands to install the applet:
  
  python setup.py install
  GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=$(gconftool-2 --get-default-source) gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /usr/share/gconf/schemas/battery-status.schemas
  
  

Add the Applet to the Taskbar

• 1). Right-click on the taskbar and choose the "Add to Panel" option.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Battery Applet" option in the Add to Panel dialog window. The applet will appear in the taskbar
  
  
• 3). Click on the applet to view the power statistics and change the power management preferences.
