How to Change a Vinyl Top Window Sash
- 1). Unlock the window and raise the bottom sash a few inches. Push inward on each spring-loaded release button on the top of the sash. Rotate the top of the sash inward a few inches.
- 2). Raise one side of the sash until the pin at the bottom of that side of the sash releases from the clip in the window jamb. Pull that side of the sash slightly outward from the jamb.
- 3). Pull up on the opposite side of the sash to release the pin from the clip in the jamb. Remove the bottom sash from the window frame and set it aside.
- 4). Lower the top sash until its bottom edge is a few inches above the window sill. Push inward on each spring-loaded release button on the top of the sash. Rotate the top of the sash inward a few inches.
- 5). Raise one side of the sash until the pin at the bottom of that side of the sash releases from the clip in the window jamb. Pull that side of the sash slightly outward from the jamb.
- 6). Pull up on the opposite side of the sash to release the pin from the clip in the jamb. Remove the top sash from the window frame and set it aside.
- 7). Hold the replacement top sash flat with the protruding jamb pins facing the window frame. Hold the sash at a slight angle so that the pin on one side is resting on the clip in the window jamb. Rotate the sash downward so that the opposite pin is resting on the other clip. Push down on the sash to engage the pins into the clips. Rotate the top of the sash inward until it locks into the window jamb. Push the sash all the way to the top of the window frame.
- 8). Install the bottom sash in the window frame in the same fashion as Step 7.
