Monterey, CA Judge Throws The Book At Financial Elder Abuser: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California

A man who once ran National Lampoon Inc. ripped off investors, most of them senior citizens, to the tune of $200 million. He will no longer be living in his 30,000 square foot mansion thanks to a federal judge who sent him off to serve a 50 year prison term on Friday. His company, ironically called Fair Finance, was just another Ponzi scheme that unraveled during the recession. Two of his associates were sentenced Friday as well, one to ten years and another to 25 years. Good riddance. Unfortunately, the recession has not only uncovered a number of schemes that ran full bore during the good time, but the current high unemployment rate and difficult economy has brought a number of other crooks with new schemes to defraud investors to the forefront. Some of them are seniors themselves. An unfortunately common type of financial elder abuse is relatives taking advantage of sick seniors. Caregivers which are hired under the table often take advantage of the elderly as well. If you are considering hiring someone to care for your loved one, I urge you to go through a reputable agency such as Family inHome Caregiving. Make sure that your caregiver is licensed, bonded and insured. At Family inHome Caregiving, we carry surety bonds on our caregivers which are 4x the amount of most of our competitors. Thankfully, we have never had to make a claim, but it gives us and our clients the peace of mind that if someone is financially taken advantage of, it should be repaid in full. It is sad to read the increasing number of cases where people hire caregivers off of a web site like Craigslist.com without doing criminal background checks. You never know who you are getting. Protect yourself and hire a caregiver that's bonded and has been thoroughly screened.

About Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving:
After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies. I became convinced of the need for a service which provides very personal assistance to elderly and founded Family inHome Caregiving serving the Monterey Peninsula.
