How to Create Cigar Boxes

    • 1). Pick your wood. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it does need to be sturdy enough to protect the cigars.

    • 2). Mark off the bottom of the box with a ruler and a pencil. This should be at least the length of the cigars you intend to store. The box can be as wide as you want, but ideally should be two to three cigars wide. An ideal box size is 5 inches by 7 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches, which comfortably holds 10 Coronas with room to spare. For this example, measure out a 5 inch by 7 1/2 inch square with a ruler and pencil.

    • 3). Mark the sides of the box. The longer sides should extend for the full length of the bottom. Mark the shorter sides so they meet the edge of the longer sides. If you are using standard 3/16 inch thick plywood, for the example box, mark out a 2 3/4 inch by 7 1/8 inch section for the longer sides panels, and 2 3/4 inch by 5 inches for the shorter panels.

    • 4). Carefully cut the wood with a table saw.

    • 5). Sand the edges down, insuring that all the edges fit snugly.

    • 6). Apply the wood glue to the edges and attach the sides to the bottom. Clamp and wait for the box to dry.

    • 7). Lightly sand all the edges and apply wood stain for a finished look.
