How to Find a Deposit

    • 1). Log on to your account if you have established online access. If you have not yet established online access, it is worth your while to do so. Online access allows you to check your account any time, meaning you can log on after each deposit is made to make sure the proper amount is credited. When setting up online access for the first time, you will need your bank account number and your Social Security number to verify your identity. Many banks also require customers to choose a series of security questions they can use if they forget their password, or if they log on from a different computer. For security reasons the bank website remembers the identity of your PC, and if you log on from a different computer you will have to answer those security questions to proceed. This helps to deter identity theft by making it more difficult for the thief to assemble all the information necessary to access your account.

    • 2). Call your bank's customer service number and follow the prompts to check your account over the telephone. Telephone access allows you to check each deposit as it occurs. You will need to verify your identity when you call, typically with a combination of your bank account number, personal identification number and your Social Security number.

    • 3). Review your bank statement when you receive it each month. Go over the list of transactions and circle each of the deposits. Compare those deposit amounts to your records and notify the bank of any discrepancies.
