Do You Need Special Pots & Pans for a Glass Top Stove?

    Pan Construction

    • Heavy pots and pans with perfectly flat bottoms work best on glass top stoves. To avoid scratching the stove surface, the bottoms must be smooth. Do not use cookware with painted bottoms as the paint may adhere to the stove top under high temperatures.

    Cookware Materials

    • Stainless steel, heavy or anodized aluminum and some cast iron pots and pans work well on glass top stoves. Cast iron pots have to be smooth on the bottom instead of having a step-cut surface common on older cast iron. Step-cut bottoms scratch the glass and provide poor heat conduction.

    Handling Guidelines

    • Regardless of the cookware used, never drag pans across the surface of the stove top as this mars the glass finish. Take care not to drop heavy pans on the glass as it may crack and require replacement.
