Definition of a Fax Card

    Function

    • The fax card allows a connection between the computer and the phone line, enabling the computer to simulate the function of a fax machine. All images and text able to be displayed on the monitor are able to be transmitted to a fax machine. However, since fax machines read images only, all text from incoming faxes must be optically recognizable by the computer in order to be read.

    Purpose

    • Fax cards allow individuals and businesses to transmit and receive information at greater speeds and efficiency. Fax cards also allow all networked computers to receive incoming faxes simultaneously, cutting back on the time needed for communication.

    Pricing

    • The pricing of fax cards varies from a couple hundred dollars to over a thousand. Differences in speed, performance and reliability contribute to this variance.
