Edible Baby Shower Decor
- Fruit
You can purchase a fruit centerpiece from a place such as "Edible Arrangements" or you can easily make one. To make a fruit arrangement you will need: pineapples,
strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe, 20-25 wooden skewers, a basket or vase, floral foam, a melon baller and star- or flower-shaped cookie cutters.
Place the floral foam in the bottom of the vase or basket. Cut pineapple in approximately 5-6 slices. Press the cookie cutter into the center of the pineapple slice. Cut your cantaloupe in half and scoop out the fruit using your melon baller. Place a cantaloupe ball on top of a slice of pineapple. Stick a wooden skewer through both the pineapple and the melon. Repeat until you have used all the pineapple slices. Next, stick a wooden skewer through 1-2 strawberries. Do not stick fully through the top strawberry. Make approximately five of these. Take the remaining wooden skewers and stick then through 6-7 grapes. Once you have finished putting all the fruit on skewers, stick the skewers into the floral foam until you have made an arrangement. - Another simple and inexpensive idea for an edible baby shower decoration is to create a candy topiary. You will need: 2-3 bags of gumdrops in varying colors, 4-5 long cinnamon sticks, a Styrofoam craft ball, toothpicks, floral foam, a medium-sized flower pot, ribbon in a color of your choice and a knife.
Place the floral foam in the bottom of the flower pot. Take the cinnamon sticks and tie them together with the ribbon. Using a knife, cut out the center of the Styrofoam ball the same width as the bundle of cinnamon sticks. Gently push the bundle of cinnamon sticks into the hole. Then, place the opposite end of the bundle of cinnamon sticks into the floral foam. Stick a toothpick through each gumdrop. Repeat with all but a handful of the gumdrops. Arrange the toothpicks with the gumdrops attached into the Styrofoam ball until all the space is filled. Place the remaining gumdrops on top of the floral foam to completely cover. - Several chain retailers sell cookie bouquets. However, it is very simple and inexpensive to make one. To make a cookie bouquet, you will need: cookie dough (either store-bought or made at home), 20-25 wooden skewers, floral foam, a vase or basket and ribbon in a color of your choice.
Place raw cookie dough on a baking sheet for individual cookies. Slightly flatten the dough. Insert a wooden skewer into one side of each cookie. Bake according to directions. While the cookies are baking, place the floral foam in the bottom of the vase or basket. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely. Using the ribbon, tie a bow onto each skewer. Arrange the cookies by sticking the skewers into the floral foam.
