Serving Table Decorating Ideas

    Christmas

Christmas dinner is often regarded as the most important meal of the year. For an informal table, a wicker basket filled with a variety of evergreens is both simple and appealing. Red berries and a bow on the handle will add color. To add height to your table, gather tall twigs and spray them with clear glitter. Place them in a tall, clear vase that has metallic glass balls placed in the bottom. Hang wired votive candle holders from the twigs. Place the arrangement on a mirrored tile, and set votive candles around the base of the vase and between the plates of food.

    Thanksgiving

Carving pumpkins is generally associated with Halloween, however, carved pumpkins can be used for a Thanksgiving centerpiece on your serving table. Hollow out a very round pumpkin and discard the top. Wedge a piece of florist's oasis in the top of the pumpkin so it's tight and secure. Cut the stems of a dozen yellow mums to about 6 inches long. Insert the mums into the oasis so the flowers are a domed shape. Tuck autumn leaves between some of the mums. Place the pumpkin in the center of a table covered with a burgundy cloth. Scatter leaves around the base of the pumpkin and place several gourds around the pumpkin and throughout the table.

    Valentine's Day

Red roses are synonymous with Valentine's Day. Use a tall, clear glass vase and place several inches of clear marbles in the bottom. Fill the vase with water. Cut the stems of at least three dozen white mums to 6 inches long. Place them in the vase so they make a mounded cluster. Cut the stems of a dozen red roses so they rise 12 inches above the mums. Place the roses in the center of the mums. The bottoms of the stems will be hidden by the marbles. Place the vase on a tiled mirror in the center of the table, which is spread with a white cloth. Scatter rose petals over the table and place votive candles around the vase and platters of food.

    Easter

The focal piece for an Easter serving table is a tree with hanging dyed eggs. To make the tree, find a branch that is about 3-feet long. Wedge a piece of florist's green plastic foam into an 8-inch terra cotta flower pot. Put hot glue on the end of the branch and insert it into the foam so it is secure. It should look like a little tree. Hot glue faux dogwood blossoms onto the branch. Glue moss over the foam. Hang decorated eggs by ribbons from the twigs. Center the "tree" on your serving table. Surround the pot with eggs and scatter blossoms across the table. Yellow or off-white linens complements this theme.
