How to Grow White Princess Peach Trees in Kansas
- 1). Choose a location in your yard that offers full sunlight that is not going to be blocked by buildings or other trees. The soil needs to be well-drained and sandy with a pH between 5.5. to 7, according to Backyard Gardener.
- 2). Test the soil's pH and add in organic matter, lime and fertilizer according to the results, recommends Ohio State University Extension. Mix in the amendments to the soil 10 to 12 inches deep.
- 3). Plant the tree in the ground as deep as it was in the nursery container. Make sure the tree is in the center of the bed you prepared. Backfill the hole and water well but do not over-water. Peach trees do not like water settling on top of the soil for more than an hour according to Ohio State University Extension.
- 4). Fertilize using a 10-10-10 fertilizer applying 1/2 lb. seven to 10 days after planting and again 40 days after planting. Spread the fertilizer 8 to 12 inches away from the trunk. For mature trees, apply 1 to 2 lbs. of fertilizer in March and May, suggests Ohio State University Extension.
- 5). Apply mulch 1 foot away from the trunk of the tree to prevent weeds and keep soil moist. Water 1 inch of water per week according to Nature Hills Nursery.
