- 1). Climb up carefully onto the roof via a ladder, bringing up a hooked wire, garden hose with attached spray nozzle and a flashlight. The wire can be made from an old clothes hanger.
- 2). Shine the flashlight down into the top of the roof stack pipe, and look for any obstructions. Push the hooked end of the wire down into the end of the pipe, to retrieve any objects close to the pipe's end. If any small branches are found further down the pipe, create a longer hooked wire to retrieve them.
- 3). Spray water down into the pipe, to push foreign objects farther down and into the sewer line, where they will be flushed away. Continue spraying water into the pipe until all obstructions are cleared.
