What Events And Festivals Are On in Stratford upon Avon In 2010?
There is nothing like taking a short break from the rush of modern life with a weekend away. If you haven't planned one for you and your family yet then may I suggest you come and visit us in Stratford upon Avon. In 2010 we have a number of events and festivals that could provide you with the perfect way to unwind. No matter what your interests and hobbies are I am sure you will be able to find the perfect event to satisfy your needs. Among a multitude of other events some of this years highlights will definitely include;
* Shakespeare Marathon and Shakespeare's Birthday Concert - both in late April.
* Stratford Regatta - a family event held on the banks of the River Avon for over hundred years
* Classic Car and Transport Show - held in late June
* Leamington Peace Festival - held on the weekend nearest to the Summer Solstice
* Poetry Festival - late June to late August
* Big Sheep Show - a farming event held in June at Mary Arden's House
This years special festivals for me will be;
Stratford upon Avon Literary Festival - this year the Literary Festival will be running from the 26th April through 3rd May. The line up for this years festival is due to be announced in early February and I can't wait to see who will be there this year. In previous years we have seen such talented writers and speakers as Clarissa Dickson Wright, Lord Charles Spencer, David Hewson, Sophie Hannah, Felix Dennis, Adele Gears, Mark Barrowcliffe, Stuart Maconie, Pam Ayres, Julian Clary, Melvyn Bragg and Gyles Brandreth.
Orchestra of the Swan - Spring Sounds -this successful music festival curated by David Curtis and Tasmin Davis was an absolute treat last year and the line-up for 2010 promises to be just as good. It will run from Friday 28th May to Monday 31st May and the bill confirmed so far will include;
Beethoven's Violin Concerto - Civic Hall, 8pm, Sunday 30th
A Russian Reverie - Venue TBC, 3pm, Sunday 30th
Waltons Facade - Compton Verney, 3pm, Monday 31st
Musical Masterpieces - All day Saturday 29th at the Town Hall
Tasmin Little plays Vivaldi - Civic Hall, 8pm, Friday 28th
Like last year the Spring Sounds Festival will also include a number of events that are tailored towards children so you can make this a weekend to remember for the whole family.
However if real is more your thing I highly recommend our beer festival;
Stratford upon Avon Beer and Cider Festival - this runs from Friday 18th June from 2.00pm until 11.00pm and Saturday the 19th June from 11.00am until 11.00pm. Based at the Racecourse - which is only a short taxi ride from the town centre - our beer festival is in its 4th year. If you are already a member of CAMRA you can get in for free, even if you are not a member the price of admission is minimal. Confirmations for the event already include;
Salopian - Shropshire Gold (3.8%)
Little Drinks Company - Buccaneer (4.1%)
Sumerskills - Bravo Zulu (5.0%)
York - Centurians Ghost (5.4%)
Davenports - IPA (4.0%)
