- 1). Build a rack that is large enough to hold the surfboard, or purchase one of the many surfboard racks that are commercially available. A rack needs two parts, one for the front and one for the back. It also needs to be wide enough for the surfboard to sit flat on top of it.
- 2). Locate the ceiling joists that are holding up the ceiling using a stud finder or by tapping a small nail through the drywall until you feel it going into the joist rather than slipping through the drywall.
- 3). Attach the rack to the ceiling by holding it against the ceiling and drilling a pilot hole through the rack and into the ceiling joist. Secure the rack to the ceiling by putting two lag bolts through the rack and firmly into the ceiling joist.
- 4). Set the surfboard so it is sitting flat on the rack with its fin pointing down.
