New Zealand Immigration Requirements

    Passport

    • All visas that you will apply for to enter New Zealand will require that you have a passport. The passport must be government issued by your country of citizenship, have at least one blank page in it (space needed to insert the visa) and be valid for at least six months after the date you plan on leaving New Zealand.

    Passport Photos

    • When compiling your visa application package for the New Zealand embassy/ consulate you will have to provide an additional color passport photo with your application. The photo must be of your current likeness, as it will be used for identification purposes.

    Application and Fees

    • You must complete the appropriate application and pay the appropriate fees before you will be allowed to immigrate to New Zealand for any reason (temporary or permanent). The applications can be found on the Immigration of New Zealand website and downloaded as a PDF file.

    Additional Documentation

    • Additional documentation includes a medical examination and a penal record. A copy of your police record from your country of residence will be required before you come to New Zealand on some visas. Also the medical examination, including a chest x-ray, is necessary for people who wish to stay in New Zealand longer than 12 months. The medical examination may be requested by the New Zealand government by people who wish to stay in the country shorter than 12 months.

    Working In New Zealand

    • Work visas will require that you have a proven skill set that is needed in the New Zealand labor market. In order to prove that you have said skill set you may be required to provide references of past employers as well as your educational records. In order to obtain a work visa for New Zealand and immigrate (temporarily or permanently) you will need to provide a copy of your work contract to Immigration New Zealand before you will be allowed to immigrate to the country.

    Studying

    • People who wish to immigrate to study in New Zealand may have to show proof of acceptance into a New Zealand university before they will be allowed to enter the country.
