How to Paint Judge's Paneling
- 1). Combine 1/4 cup trisodium phosphate (TSP) with1 gallon water in a bucket. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and dip a sponge into the mixture. Wipe down all the wooden judge's paneling with the sponge. TSP is a no-rinse cleanser, so simply allow all the panels to air dry.
- 2). Put on your goggles and dust mask. Sand the the panels with 80-grit sandpaper, which will remove the old finish and open up the wood's surface to receive the paint. Once they're sanded, wipe down the panels with a cloth dampened in mineral spirits to remove any dust.
- 3). Dip a paint roller in your acrylic primer and apply an even coat of primer to the flat areas of the paneling. Cut in with a trim brush to make sure all the panels are adequately covered, including detailed trim or ornate areas. Allow the primer to dry for three hours .
- 4). Dip your paint roller in the latex paint and apply an even coat of paint to the flat sections of the panels. Cut in with your trim brush to cover the raised sections of the panels, using smooth even strokes. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours and then apply a second coat.
