How to Install a Drip Edge Gutter

    • 1). Measure the edge of the roof where you want to install the drip edge. Transfer that measurement to a piece of drip edge material, marking the cut line with a pencil.

    • 2). Cut the drip edge with a pair of tin snips, using the pencil line as a cutting guide.

    • 3). Bring the drip edge up to the roof edge. Lift up the first layer of shingles and slide the wide, flat end of the drip edge underneath the shingles. Move the ladder, if needed, and continue until the entire drip edge is in place.

    • 4). Place a short roofing nail on the drip edge, about an inch in from each end. You will have to hold up the shingles to do this. Drive the nails into place with a hammer.

    • 5). Lift up the shingles again and apply a continuous bead of roofing cement to the top of the drip edge. Release the shingles and press down on them to secure the bottom of the shingles to the top of the drip edge.
