Dell D820 KVM LCD Problems

    Blank Display

    • There are a few reasons why your Latitude screen may go blank intermittently. Shake the mouse gently or press any key to make sure the system isn't in sleep mode. Make sure the alternating current (AC) adapter is firmly connected and that battery is fully charged. Then, check your power plan settings. In Microsoft Windows 7 and Vista, these settings are managed by the battery icon in the system tray; on earlier versions of Windows, right-click the desktop and choose Properties, then Power Management. Look for a setting that says Turn off the display and choose Never.

    Dim LCD

    • A dim LCD screen is usually caused by a setting, not a malfunction. Use the function key and the up and down arrows to adjust the brightness. If the screen remains dim, move the laptop to a different part of your house to see if interference was causing the problem.

    External Displays

    • A surefire way to check the LCD display is to attach your Latitude computer to an external monitor. Use the function key and F8 to toggle between the LCD and the external monitor and check if the problems are still there on the external monitor; if the monitor doesn't have any issues, your LCD is likely damaged.
