How to Help Someone With a Crack Addiction

    • 1). Tell your friend that you believe he has a drug problem. If you're not honest with him, you will not be able to help. You cannot trick or manipulate a person out of drug addiction. When confronting him with your concerns, he may try to brush you off at first. Let him. But bring the issue up at a later time, after you've seen signs of crack use.

    • 2). Avoid enabling drug use at all costs. If she asks for a ride, make sure you know she is going to a drug-free place. While you must not enable her, you must not condemn either. Do not talk down to her or treat her as inferior to you. Try to sympathize without enabling.

    • 3). Consider conducting a group or family intervention. Showing the crack addict how much people care for him will be a positive step toward him choosing to make a healthy change in his lifestyle. If your friend ever asks you to help him, agree to help. Asking for your help may take him months--or even years--but once he chooses to ask for help, you must be willing to assist in any way you can.
