How to Make a Wood Weaving Loom
- 1). Put the canvas stretchers out to form a rectangle. Glue the pieces together to form the frame. Pound a thin nail carefully into each section for security.
- 2). Measure and mark 8 inches in from the back of the frame loom on both sides of the longer pieces. Set the 1-by-1-by-4 inch wood sticks in an upright position on each mark and attach them each with two brackets. One will go on each side with the back bracket on the outside edge and the front bracket on the inside edge of the frame. Do not place the screws into the holes on the top front brackets. Instead, screw a cup hook in each top hole.
- 3). Drill another hole 3 ½ inches up from the base into the front of each of the 1-by-1-by-4 inch wood sticks and screw in the other two cup hooks. All hooks should be open or in the "up" position to hold one of the ½-inch dowels.
- 1). Wrap the wire around a ¼-inch dowel 30 times to form a long spring-like piece. Cut the end and carefully slide the wire off. Repeat the process to create a second spring.
- 2). Tack one wire spring to the outside edge at the front of the loom frame with thumbtacks. Tack the other wire spring to the outside edge at the back of the loom frame.
- 3). Attach the second ½-inch dowel to the underside of the loom frame with masking tape, about five inches from the front of the loom frame.
- 4). Use three pieces of the 1 ½-inch lattice molding and the first ½-inch dowel for warping the loom. Round the edges of the remaining piece of lattice, cut "U" shapes in each end with a coping saw and sand the edges to form a shuttle.
