Directions for Magazine Wastebasket

    • 1). Remove the pages from your magazine. The number of pages will depend on how large you want your finished project to be.

    • 2). Fold all the pages from your magazine until you have half-inch strips of rolled paper. To do this, start at the torn, long side of the page. Fold the page over approximately half an inch and crease the fold. Continue to fold it over itself in this manner, creasing each fold, until you have folded the entire page. Repeat this with each page of the magazine you will need.

    • 3). To create the base, take one of your folded strips from Step 2 and roll it up. The easiest way to do this is to roll it around your finger, adding a dab of hot glue where the strip first over laps itself. Once you have rolled the entire strip, use a dab of hot glue to secure the end in place. Take a second strip and adhere it to the first rolled strip where the first roll ended. Use glue to secure it. Wrap the second strip around like you did the first, gluing the end the same way. Continue to roll the strips around one another, gluing as you go until you have the circumference you want your base to be. As you build your spiral, you will eventually not be able to wrap a strip around an entire time. This is okay. Just keep building as you go.

    • 4). Fill the hole in the center of your base with some hot glue. This will seal the hole.

    • 5). Roll the remaining folded strips of paper and roll them around your finger as you did in Step 2, gluing the ends. However, keep each rolled piece separate; do not wrap them around one another. This will create hundreds of individual rolled circles. Again, the number you need depends on the size you want your finished product to be.

    • 6). Use hot glue to attach the rolled strips to your base. To do this, place the base flat in front of you. Turn one of the rolled strips onto its side and use hot glue to adhere the side of the roll to the side of the base. Make sure the roll is flush to the base and to the ground. Attach a second roll right next to the first, gluing it to the base and to the other roll. Continue around the base until it is covered in rolled strips.

    • 7). Add a second layer of rolled strips. Use hot glue to attach one rolled strip on top of the first roll. For best results, offset the second row so that the roll sits between two of the rolls on the bottom row. Continue to attach rolled strips to create the second layer of the basket.

    • 8). Repeat Step 7 until you have enough rows to create your desired wastebasket size.

    • 9). Spray your finished product with the craft sealant of your choice. This will help protect your wastebasket from damage. Allow the sealant to dry before using it.
