1987 Chevrolet Suburban Specifications

    • The Chevrolet and GMC Suburban was introduced in 1936. Based on a commercial truck panel, Suburban designers added windows to a large cargo area and created a truck-based station wagon. In the ensuing years, a host of design and engineering changes were made, but the high occupancy cabin remained a constant in suburbans. The 1987 Suburban was the last of a 15-year generation.

    Exterior and Weight

    • Built on the same frame as the GM 1500 truck models of the time, the 1987 Suburban has length, width and height of 214.62 inches, 76.42 inches and 70.55 inches, respectively. The wheelbase is 129.95 inches and all models were sold standard with four doors. It weighs 4,913.71 lbs.

    Interior

    • With its enclosed structure set upon the full-sized truck frame, the 1987 has a voluminous cabin with 271-cubic feet of interior space. Three rows of seating provide comfortable space for eight adults, with an option for a ninth seat available. Even with the three rows of seats, in the rear of the vehicle is a cargo area of 45-cubic feet.

    Engine and Drive Train Options

    • The 1987 Suburban was sold with three engine options: an inline six cylinder, a standard V8 and V-8 diesel. Two- and four-wheel drive versions are available and all models are outfitted with a three-speed automatic transmission. The six-cylinder engine has displacement of 4,300-cubic centimeters and is capable of 154 horsepower at 4,000 revolutions per minute, rpm, and 230 foot-pounds of torque at 2,400 rpm.

    Brakes and Tires

    • The 1987 Suburban has front disk brakes and rear drum brakes. Front and rear wheels utilize 215/75-R15 tires.
