How to Use Home Computers for School Purposes

    • 1). Research homework subjects on the Internet. There is a lot of useful information on websites, available for free. To do this, type your subject (example: "ancient Egypt caste system") into a search engine such as Google or Bing, and judge which websites on the results page are the most informative and appropriate to the subject level.

    • 2). Create a running list of helpful reference websites for each school subject. To do this, open your word processing program and add a website to the list each time you come across a helpful one.

    • 3). Track grades on schoolwork using a spreadsheet program. To do this, create a new spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Works, OpenOffice, Apple iWork or a similar program and enter the date, topic and grade for each assignment.

    • 4). Practice communication skills by sharing helpful resources with classmates via instant message, using programs such as Yahoo Messenger, AOL Messenger or email.
