Ways to Decorate a Hunting Themed Wedding Cake

    Cake Color

    • Although the actual cake is covered with frosting and other embellishments, coordinating the cake color with the frosting enhances the hunting theme. Chocolate or devil's-food cake has the color of earth, so it makes an excellent choice. Mint or pistachio-flavored cake and green food coloring will reflect the green in nature. Peach- or apricot-colored cakes work well with an autumn-hued hunting theme.

    Frosting Colors

    • Wedding cakes no longer have to be covered with white icing that was once favored at traditional weddings. Use a dark chocolate or milk chocolate frosting if you want the base of your cake to resemble a tree trunk. Ask the bakery to design the frosting so it resembles your most often used camouflage pattern. Another option is to use frosting in a deep apricot, pale pink or gold shade that represents a sunrise, since most hunters arrive at their destinations before the crack of dawn.

    Cake Embellishments

    • Use chocolate shavings to add a tree-bark texture to your cake. Another option is to add empty shell casings instead of flowers on the cake. Silk flowers are quite useful on wedding cakes. Use ivy or another type of silk vine to wrap around the base of the tree to resemble the foliage in your personal hunting spot. Silk autumn leaves attached to the cake are another option, since fall is when many hunting seasons start. Placing miniature lanterns, faux antlers, tiny duck decoys or tiny hunting boots on the various tiers of the cake is another way to embellish the wedding cake.

    Wedding Cake Toppers

    • You do not have to use a traditional bride and groom for your wedding cake topper. If hunting deer is your sport of choice, consider using a topper that depicts a buck and doe standing side by side. Add a touch of humor to a traditional topper by gluing a miniature toy rifle to the elegantly dressed miniature bride's arm and set a tiny orange hunting cap on the groom. Small plastic trees or forest settings also enhance the hunting theme on the wedding cake.
