Leticia Mooney
Experience:
Leticia started out in the music industry at the tender age of 14, with a group - The Push - that organized all-age gigs for young people. She ended up the president of the group, and has fond memories of recording radio commercials, begging stores to put posters up, organizing buses for people from hundreds of kilometres away, and of stage managing Regurgitator and The Meanies at one show, just before the 'gurge really hit it big.
Born to be a writer, Leticia headed off to uni to study professional and technical writing and editing. Of course, churning out reams of material, Leticia started writing for the uni paper. And, as the only person covering metal, gradually became the paper's local metal guru.
University took a long time - the shine of the academy was bright! - but eventually this all faded to dust. While working in a menial job, her old editor at Entropy popped up in her inbox asking her to write for him again, this time, for FasterLouder.com.au. She did - with her first assignment being an interview with the almighty Metal God himself - and became a key metal writer for that site until they decided to shut the metal publishing down.
Henceforth, frustrated with having to put all of the metal writing in the forums, and having come into some cash, Leticia struck out on her own and started MetalAsF--k.com. She published and edited that magazine for nigh on three years before selling it. During that time, she met and mentored tens of writers and photographers worldwide.
She also penned the first Music Journalism 101 course that was online.
Education:
Leticia Supple earned a First Class Honors Degree in Professional Writing and Communication from the University of South Australia, graduating in 2004. She also possesses a Cert IV in Small Business Management gained through Australia's New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, which she earned in 2008.
From Leticia Mooney:
I have been passionate about music, writing and art for as long as I have been alive. Once I started working with The Push, the excitement of running gigs and PR started a fire in my soul. Some of the bands we worked with were amazing - from ska, to death metal, and I always wonder where they all went.
My interest in metal started as a young teenager, going to the homes of friends whose older brothers were all - without exception - huge metal heads. I have always loved metal. I like to say that Pungent Stench was the first band that really took my interest, but the reality is that even as a kid I was listening to Van Halen.
Metal never leaves you. My love for it grows stronger the older I get. And while I've taken time off from writing 'officially' for anyone, the calling keeps growing until I indulge it again. Just as you can't not be into heavy metal any more, you can't not write about it anymore, either, once you've been down that road.
Metal is not the only genre I get into, however. I am a belly dancer and thus have a real love for Middle Eastern music - including Middle Eastern pop! - and my collection ranges from that to the Beastie Boys to Tchaikovsky.
