How to Create a Campaign on Reddit
- 1). Log onto reddit. If you have a username and password, enter those in the fields on the page. If you do not, click to create a username and password. You will have to enter your email address to log on. Once you have given your information, check your email, and follow the link in your registration confirmation email from reddit.
- 2). Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Look for the "About Us" menu. Click on the word "self-serve advertising," written in red letters.
- 3). Click on "create promotion" at the top left of the screen.
- 4). Enter the title of your campaign and the URL to which you wish to direct traffic. Click the "Next" button.
- 5). Enter the duration of your campaign in the first fields at the top of the page. The campaign must start at least two days in the future. Look at the graph on the right of the page to see competition for different days of the week. If there is a longer bar on a specific day on the graph, this means that there is more competition on that day and less people will see your ad.
- 6). Decide how much you wish to pay. On reddit, the total amount paid by advertisers is divided by the number of advertisers to determine how many visitors will see your ad. For instance, if $300 was the total that advertisers paid, and you paid $60, your ad would be displayed on 20% of the user's screens. Enter your total bid, which will be divided by the number of days for which you wish your campaign to run.
- 7). Decide whether or not you want your ad to be targeted. Non targeted ads are displayed throughout the entire site, but they face more competition and cannot be shown to a specific audience. By clicking "enable targeting," you can choose at which subreddit your ad will be targeted. If you are the only advertiser for that subreddit on a particular day, your ad will be the only one displayed. If there is more than one, your ad will be given a percentage of the traffic based on the total amount paid to advertise on that subreddit on that day. When subscribers to the subreddit you have targeted view the main page, your ad will be in competition with the other non-targeted ads.
- 8). Click the "Browse" button in the "look and feel" subsection to upload a header image for your campaign. Click "disable comments" if you do not want users to be able to comment on your campaign ad.
- 9). Review your preferences, click the "create" button in the "campaign dashboard" window near the top of the window. You will be redirected to a secure server where you can enter your credit card details to pay for the ad.
