How to Fix a Belt on a Maytag Performa Washer

    • 1). Unplug the power cord before working on your Maytag Performa washing machine.

    • 2). Insert the putty knife blade under the top panel in the front of the washer. Lift the putty knife up at the front corners to unhook the internal spring clips.

    • 3). Lift the top panel up and out of the way. Remove the screws at the top of the front panel. Lift the front panel up and away from the washer. Set the front panel aside.

    • 4). Tilt the Maytag Performa washer back so it leans on the wall behind it and the bottom is exposed. Place a wood block underneath the washer to keep it propped up if needed.

    • 5). Loosen the motor mounting bolts to relieve tension on the belt. Slide the old belt off of the pulleys.

    • 6). Position the new belt around the pulleys. Tighten the motor mounting bolts.

    • 7). Lower the washer back onto all 4 of its feet. Replace the front panel. Install the 2 screws holding the front panel in place.
