How to Know When You're Ovulating
- 1). So you want to get pregnant - or maybe you want to avoid getting pregnant. Either way, learning when you are ovulating lets you know the times that are most likely for you to conceive.
The first thing you need to do is buy a calendar. You don't have to have something fancy or a special "I want to get pregnant" calendar. Any calendar will do fine. - 2
Your cycle length is determined by the number of days from one period to the next. On the first full day of a bleed, this is day 1. Mark your calendar indicating the number. Mark each day afterward 2,3,4,5 all the way through your period and until your next period begins. On average, this will be 28 days. But keep in mind, what is normal for the masses may not be normal for you!
The number of days in your cycle is very important and is an indicator of approximately when you'll ovulate. Most women will ovulate approximately 14 days before their period begins. Since on average, cycles are 28 days, this is where the 14 day rule came from. Since we're all not going to have 28 day cycles - and because even then it isn't that accurate - you need other indicators of when you are going to ovulate. - 3). The easiest way to detect when ovulation is about to occur is by checking your cervical mucous. You'll do this by inserting a finger inside your vagina and observing the consistency of the CM (Cervical Mucous) that you find.
Right after your period you'll notice very little or no cervical mucous. You are not fertile at this time.
Later, the mucous becomes tacky and sticky. It's very unlikely you are fertile during this time either.
Next, the CM will be creamy and white and more plentiful. You are beginning a fertile stage and ovulation is close. But this still is not your most fertile stage.
Usually (but not always - remember we're all different) around mid-cycle you'll notice your CM has become thinner and stretchy. If resembles egg white and can be stretched between two fingers without breaking. This is your most fertile stage. When you notice this change ovulation is about to occur. So, if you're wishing to become pregnant - do the deed! If avoiding pregnancy is your goal, abstain from sex.
Finally, at the end of your cycle, your CM will return to that prior to ovulation - little to no CM will be found.
