How to Install a Walker Exhaust on a Jeep

    Removal of Stock Exhaust

    • 1). Park your Jeep on level ground and allow the exhaust to cool.

    • 2). Remove each clamp from the stock exhaust system. Clamps are used to attach the end-pipe, muffler, catalytic converter and down-pipe. These clamps should be removed using a ratchet and socket.

    • 3). Remove the stock exhaust system from the vehicle and set the system aside. Each piece should freely disconnect from each other after the clamps have been removed. The rods that hold the exhaust on the frame can be pulled out of the stock bushings with your hands.

    Installing New Exhaust Components

    • 1). Attach the new down-pipe to the headers on your Jeep. Different Jeep engines will have different header locations. Tighten the bolts using a ratchet and socket.

    • 2). Place a clamp on the rear end of the down-pipe. Slide the muffler into position on the down-pipe. Tighten the clamp using a ratchet and socket.

    • 3). Place another clamp on the output of the muffler. Slide the catalytic converter onto the output of the muffler and tighten the clamp using a ratchet and socket.

    • 4). If your Jeep requires a pipe between the catalytic converter and the muffler, install it in the same manner as the muffler. If your Jeep does not require a second pipe, place another clamp on the output of the catalytic converter. Slide the over-axle pipe into the end of the catalytic converter and tighten the clamp using a ratchet and socket.

    • 5). Install the hanger rods from the new exhaust into the bushings on your Jeep. These rods push into the bushings using your hands. Different Jeep models will have the bushings in various locations on the frame. Start the vehicle and check for any leaks.
