Whether you live in an apartment, condo or small house, redecorating a small space can be challenging but fun. Many stores now cater to apartment living, with scaled down furniture and creative storage options. When redecorating small rooms, work with objects that can do double duty, such as using small bookshelves with storage capability for side tables. - Keep your kitchen counter clutter-free.kitchen image by Gina Smith from Fotolia.com
Turn a small kitchen into a fully functioning workspace by leaving some counter space empty for working. Mount a piece of industrial metal grid onto a wall and hang all your utensils onto the grid with hooks. Chrome metal restaurant shelving is ideal for storing pots, pans, canned items and cookbooks. Store all appliances not used daily above shelves and on top of the refrigerator. Utilize under-sink storage by purchasing inexpensive plastic drawer units to store kitchen towels, matches and knickknacks. - An ottoman can be used as a coffee table or guest seating.Living room image by MAXFX from Fotolia.com
In a small space, a living room sometimes has to double as a home office or dining room. Choose furnishings that can do double duty. Instead of a coffee table, choose two ottomans that open for storage space. Place a piece of tempered glass or two serving trays on the ottomans for coffee table duty and when guests arrive, you can have additional seating. Small bookcases can be used as side tables. Instead of a desk for a home office, place a piece of melamine board over two wood file cabinets to utilize space. Place all papers and work items in color-coordinated boxes to eliminate clutter. Choose a dining table that can fold away or chairs that can stack to maximize space. - Choose bold colored bedding.interior a bedroom image by Leonid Nyshko from Fotolia.com
Choose a good bed and dresser in a neutral color. Use shelves or bookcases instead of night tables to utilize more storage space. To make the room "pop," choose two vibrant colors, such as red and orange or green and aqua as your accent colors. Paint an accent wall in one of these bold colors and purchase bedding, an area rug and lampshades in these colors for a finished look.
