How to Make a Homemade Velvet Christmas Ornament With a Styrofoam Ball
- 1). Cut out a rectangle from plush velvet fabric to measure 6 inches wide, 13 inches long.
- 2). Lay the velvet rectangle horizontally on the table, and cut out 1-inch triangles along the top and bottom edges to make the edges spiked.
- 3). Cover a 4-inch Styrofoam ball with fabric glue, then wrap the rectangular form around the ball.
- 4). Fold the spiked edges over on the top and bottom of the Styrofoam ball to close the velvet wrapping. Allow the fabric glue to dry for 30 minutes.
- 5). Insert lines of pearl-topped straight pins along each seam on the top and bottom of the velvet wrapping. This conceals the seams in a decorative way.
- 6). Cut a piece of ribbon using scissors to measure 18 inches long.
- 7). Lay the ribbon out horizontally on the table, and place the velvet ball in the center of the ribbon.
- 8). Fold the ribbon up over the top of the velvet ball, twist the ribbon perpendicular to how it was previously positioned, then tie the ribbon into a tight knot.
- 9). Tie the ends of the ribbon into a knot, leaving an excess of ribbon on the ends that measure 3 inches long. Tie the ends into a bow.
