How to Sharpen a Sword With a Sharpening Stone
- 1). Fill a bucket with water and dissolve the baking soda. Soak the water stones in the mixture for 20 minutes.
- 2). Place the 800-grit stone in a vice on a workbench or flat surface.
- 3). Remove the blade from the hilt. Hold the blade with a thick towel to ensure that you don't hurt yourself.
- 4). Hold the sword in one hand, provide balance with the other hand, and keep the sword flat. Pass the blade over the stone in soft uniform even strokes. Use a back and forth motion and keep the blade steady. Inspect the blade often to make sure you are maintaining the surface geometry.
- 5). After you have sharpened the blade 100 times on each side of the blade with the 800-grit stone, repeat the process with the other two stones until you have a sharp sword with a shine.
