How to Import a Clip on Avid DS V8

    • 1). Click the "Show/Hide" button on the top-left corner of the main menu bar. This will make a new blank work panel appear on the left side of the Avid application window.

    • 2). Click the menu arrow next to the "Show/Hide" button. Click on "My System" from the menu. "My Computer" and "My Network Places" directory icons will appear in the newly-created work panel.

    • 3). Click on the arrow to the left of either "My Computer" or "My Network Places" to display the directory tree.

    • 4). Continue clicking on directory arrows to navigate to the directory containing the video file you want to import.

    • 5). Right-click on the video file and select "Capture Settings" from the contextual menu. The "Capture Settings" dialog will appear.

    • 6). Select a video resolution and bit depth from the appropriate menus in the "Video" panel.

    • 7). Select the audio sample rate and bit depth from the "Audio" panel.

    • 8). Select a location to save the imported clip from the "Capture Target" menu, located in the "Media Capture" panel. Select "Project Root" to save the clip to the main project directory or "Main Explorer Location" to save the clip to the directory that is currently open in Avid Explorer. You can also click the "Target" button to select your own directory.

    • 9). Click the "Close" button at the top-right corner of the "Capture Settings" menu to save the capture settings and close the dialog window.

      Right-click on the video file and select "Capture" from the contextual menu. The video will appear as a clip in the clip bin directory that you specified in step 8.
