Travel Documents Needed for the Bahamas
- Passports are required to enter the Bahamas.
According to Travel Document Systems, American visitors and business travelers to the Bahamas must have a valid passport and tickets for return or onward travel dated within six months of arrival in the Bahamas. - The U.S. Department of State writes that "U.S. citizens planning on an extended stay of several months may be asked by Bahamian immigration authorities to provide proof or evidence of financial solvency upon entry to The Bahamas." If you plan to stay longer than six months, or have no return or onward tickets, take a statement from your bank giving your current balance with you.
- Alien Registration Card
Permanent alien residents of the U.S. traveling to the Bahamas will need to bring their Form I-551/Alien Registration Card and a valid passport, or their Permit to Re-enter The United States document. - According to the U.S. Department of State, "Children under age 16 will be able to continue crossing land and sea borders using only a U.S. birth certificate (or other form of U.S. citizenship such as a naturalization certificate). The original birth certificate or a copy may be used." However, the Department of State strongly recommends that all individuals, including infants and children, have a valid passport when traveling outside of the U.S.
- Visas are not required. If you have a serious medical condition, it is recommended that you take a copy of your doctor's statement as to your condition and any medications you require.
