What to Do in Cape Cod

Cape Cod vacations are popular for a reason. When you visit Cape Cod in the summer, there are a lot of fun and interesting things to do. As you plan your vacation, you'll want to make a list of things you are interested in doing.

If you spend the time before your vacation to plan what you want to do, then you can better spend your time on vacation doing more interesting things and not wasting your time on figuring out activities. Consider this list of great things to do, and pick your favorite ones to put on your own list.

Things to Do

  • Whale watching: This is a great activity that is very popular to both locals and people that visit the cape. There are a lot of whales that come through the area, so you can expect to have some great views. You can choose a whale watching company that is close to where you are staying. Because there are a few different companies, do a little research to pick the tour that seems best for you.
  • Ship watching: If you want to watch some ships rather than whales, you can visit the Cape Cod Canal. All types of ships go through this canal every day, including cruise ships, cargo ships, and other large ships. You can sit on the shoreline and see these ships up close. There are often maritime events in the area as well during the summer, so you may want to look up if there is an event happening during your vacation and plan your visit to the canal with that in mind.
  • Lighthouses: You can take advantage of the fact that you are in Cape Cod to visit some of the lighthouses in the area. These are always cool to see, and children and adults alike enjoy them. Tours are offered at some of the more popular lighthouses, such as the Nauset Lighthouse and the Three Sisters Lighthouses. Make these unique destinations a stop on your tour of the cape.
  • Vineyards: If you enjoy wine and want an authentic visit to a vineyard, you have a few options in the area. There are tours offered of the vineyards, and you can enjoy some relaxing wine tasting in the countryside.
  • Beer tour: If you are more of a beer fan, you can visit Cape Cod Beer, the only brewery in the area. They offer free tours throughout the week and most of the weekends. You can bring your kids in for the tour if you're looking for a family activity, but you can also sample the beer if you are 21 or older.
  • Cape Cod Lavender Farm: This farm is one of the largest on the East Coast. You can wander through over 12 acres of lavender with a great view of a pond. The flowers look and smell exceptionally beautiful during the summer, so this is a rare opportunity that you'll want to take advantage of. As an added bonus, admission to the lavender farms is free!
