How You Too Can Make Great Beer At Home With No Experience

You have bought all of the ingredients and have done all of your research to learn how to make home brew beer but for some reason, it does not seem to come out right.

This is a fun hobby that is enjoyed by many people and once you get it right, you too can have a lot of fun making beer.
The first thing you must consider is the water.
When you make beer at home, do not use chlorinated water.
If you live on a property that has a well, the chances are very slim that it is chlorinated.
If in doubt, use spring water from the grocery store.
If you use chlorinated water, such as city water, you will run the risk of your end product tasting very bad.
You should also avoid using water that is distilled.
Spring water has minerals and nutrients that distilled water lacks.
These minerals and nutrients are essential in making sure that the yeast will ferment properly.
Spring or well water will provide you with the best tasting beer.
It is extremely important that you make sure to buy only the freshest ingredients.
If you use stale products, the end result will be a poor tasting beer.
Make sure that the yeast you buy is not outdated and that the hops have been kept refrigerated.
Dried malt extract has a longer shelf life then the liquid form.
It also creates a lighter beer and so it is recommended by most.
The easiest way to tell if your dried malt is fresh is to bite into a piece.
If it is crunchy then you can be sure it is fresh.
To prevent burning, remove the pot from the heat prior to adding your extract.
Leaving it on the heat will increase your odds of either scorching or burning the extract to the bottom of the pot.
You should also prevent the extract from landing on the bottom of the pot my stirring it thoroughly when you add the extract.
Be sure to use a pot that is big enough so that you have extra room.
This will help prevent any messes from the pot boiling over.
If you are going to make a 2 or 3 gallon batch, consider using a pot that will hold 5 gallons to ensure you have a lot of room.
It is also essential that you keep your eye on the pot when you are boiling wort.
If it looks as though it will boil over, take it off of the heat.
To avoid having any off flavors develop, it is important that you cool off the wort as quickly as you can.
You can use either an ice water bath or a wort chiller to cool it down quickly, usually within 15 to 20 minutes.
Whatever you do, do not add ice to the wort.
The process to make home brew beer can be a lot of fun, especially once you have the basics down pat.
Consider writing down everything you do and your recipe so that when you find a method that works best for you, you can follow it again in the future.
