Finding an Energy Efficient Electrician

How do you know a good electrician? What about your electric bill? Will a low bill mean your electrician did a good job? Not necessarily true.
Sometimes, it is the homeowner that makes the electric bill rise.
I have done great electrical jobs and then the homeowner goes above and beyond his duty to plan and use more electricity then they can.
They seem to do this just because I told them that I wired their house high efficient.
Now, if I had not told them anything, I wonder if they would have reacted and pushed their usage to the limits.
I have one customer that seems to go out his way to prove me wrong.
After a complaint of a high electric bill, I entered his house to evaluate the situation.
What did I find? I saw all kinds of things.
I saw doors not sealed.
I saw antique windows and they were not sealed.
I saw a fireplace with the damper venting to the outside open.
Life style has a lot to so with efficiency.
You can get efficient all you want.
But if the front door is open, it leaves a big gaping hole in your system.
So, efficiency is a life style change.
It's an attitude change.
I suggest you look for an electrician that does custom wiring.
If he does track houses, you may not want him because he is doing those jobs fast and cheap.
He is not designing your house to be energy efficient.
He is trying to get out of it as quick as possible.
A good electrician will explain the job prior to starting.
He will go over your plans and individualize them to your needs.
He will suggest ideas which may save you money in the long run.
