How to Remove Caulking From Brick
- 1). Hold a heat gun 12 inches away from the brick area that has caulk on it. Turn the heat gun on and move it continuously along the caulk. Do not allow the caulk to melt.
- 2). Turn the heat gun off and insert the flat blade of a putty knife along the edge of the caulk. Push it firmly under the caulk until it lifts up. Continue prying until an entire section of the caulk lifts free from the brick.
- 3). Grasp the free section of caulk in one hand and pull it gently away from the brick as you use the putty knife to loosen the portions that are still stuck. Continue until most of the caulk is removed from the brick.
- 4). Brush the brick gently with a wire brush to remove any remaining pieces of caulk that are stuck to the surface of the brick.
- 5). Examine the brick to see if any caulk still remains in the pores of the brick. If so, use a pressure washer to remove it. If the caulk does not respond to the pressure washer, it is made of butyl and you must use a cloth soaked in paint thinner to scrub it out.
