Scrubs: World Wide

Scrubs, which first appeared in the USA in the 1990's, have mostly replaced the traditional nursing uniform in America.
In Europe, some nurses argue that scrub uniforms are easier to work in than the old nursing uniforms.
Other European nurses argue that scrubs make them look like one of the housekeepers and are concerned they won't be recognized as nurses.
Each type of uniform looks as good as the other.
When scrubs became popular in Britain, the majority of nurses still continued to wear dresses, as did many nurses in Third World countries.
The majority of nurses around the world continue to wear a traditional uniform consisting of a dress, apron and cap.
There has been a move toward alternative designs in nursing uniforms in some countries.
Newer style nurse's uniforms are a tunic-style top and dark blue trousers that are optimally designed to prevent cross-infection.
In these areas, the color depends upon the grade of the nurse.
The tunics often feature piping around the edges of the uniform.
Male nurses wear a white tunic with epaulettes in the color of their grade.
For outdoor clothing, the nurse wears a red jacket over the indoor uniform.
If a nurse is seen outside in his or her indoor uniform, this is a reprimandable offense and the nurse may be subjected to a review.
Currently, the differentiation between nurses, doctors, staff, etc.
is only denoted by accessories and nametags.
At most U.
S.
