How to Get Out of a Stop Light Camera Ticket
- 1). Confirm with the county court department that the stop light traffic ticket is authentic by going to the county website and submitting your ticket number. Depending on the red light camera system, it may take several weeks to process your traffic violation. Once you receive your traffic ticket in the mail, search the county court department's database for information regarding the ticket.
- 2). Educate yourself on the traffic laws of your state and collect any evidence to build your case. Most states require notification postings of photo enforcement red light cameras at least 300 yards prior to the intersection. If the signs are not posted, you can go to the intersection where your ticket was cited and take photo evidence to help your case. Some states also require the citation to be dated and mailed within a certain number of days. If your citation was delivered after the time period, you can bring the envelope and ticket as evidence.
- 3). Go to court to fight your stop light camera ticket. Before entering the courtroom, prepare your defense and gather your evidence to show the judge. If the person in the photograph is not you, you can present the evidence in court and argue that you can not be held accountable for the traffic violation. If there is no officer to present you with the video or photograph, there is no evidence against you so there is no case and the case will be dismissed.
