Displaying a Sports Jersey in a Shadow Box
- 1). Open the shadow box and pull out the felt backing if possible. Lay the backing down felt side up. Some shadow boxes do not have removable backing. Instead, these boxes will open from a hinge to give you room to arrange the shirt on the backing from inside the shadow box.
- 2). Decide whether you want the front of the jersey displayed or the back, then arrange the jersey on top of the felt backing in the position you want it to be displayed. Leave the jersey unfolded length-wise to display the player's number if there is room, or neatly fold the jersey so that the part of the shirt to be displayed most prominently is showing. Leave the jersey's sleeves out at its side if there's room, or fold them in slightly at the top so they overlap the jersey's body but do not obstruct the numbers or design.
- 3). Place straight pins through the shoulders of the jersey and into the felt backing. To keep the jersey from sagging, place the pins through each side of the neckline and along the sides as well. Place straight pins through the fabric and into the felt backing where the sleeves fold to keep them in place, making sure to pin through both layers of the jersey in all places. Then carefully replace the felt backing with the attached jersey into the shadow box and close the box.
- 4). Locate a stud in the wall on which you want the shadow box displayed to hang the shadow box more securely. Use an electronic stud finder if you have one or knock along the wall while feeling and listening for a stud if you don't have a stud finder. Most of the wall will sound the same, but the areas with studs behind the drywall will sound and feel more solid. Mark the location of the stud on the wall using a pencil.
- 5). Hammer a nail into the stud and place the hanging bracket attached to the back of the shadow box on the nail to display the jersey.
