Scholarships for Dentists
- High school and college students who major in dental programs at accredited postsecondary schools are eligible to apply for American Dental Association Foundation scholarships. Amounts and numbers of the scholarships that are awarded each year vary. Money from the scholarships is sent directly to the college or university you attend. The scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students. You must provide to the foundation your transcripts and the name of the college or university you plan to attend when you apply for a scholarship.
- Students who major in dental programs at accredited United States colleges and universities are eligible to apply for National Health Service Corps Scholarships. The scholarships are administered through the United States Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to receiving the scholarships, you also get a $1,289 monthly stipend as of 2011. Winning the scholarships requires a commitment to work as a dentist for as many years as you receive funds from the scholarships. For example, a student who used the scholarship funds to pay their tuition, books and lab fees for three years is required to work as a dentist for at least three years after she gets her degree and medical licenses. The number and amount of the scholarships awarded each year vary.
- The Academy of Latter-day Saints awards scholarships to students who major in dentistry. As of April 2011, the amounts of the scholarships are $1,000 for students who plan to work as dentists post-graduation and $500 for students who are going to college or university to work as dental hygienists after they graduate. The numbers of scholarships awarded each year vary. You must have membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to receive the scholarships. Award recipients can attend any accredited college or university in the United States.
- Female students who are completing dental research work while they attend accredited colleges and universities can apply for Colgate Research scholarships. As of April 2011, ten scholarships were awarded in the amount of $500. Only junior and senior college dental majors are eligible to receive the scholarships, which are administered through the American Association of Women Dentists.
