How to Highlight Hair With Peroxide

    Chunky Highlights

    • 1). Wash and condition the hair before highlighting to remove any styling products. Let the conditioner sit for at least two minutes before rinsing. Repeat if desired.

    • 2). Towel dry the hair, leaving it damp. Damp hair is more manageable, and it will be easier to work with than dry hair.

    • 3). Separate chunks of hair to highlight, using a comb. Highlights can be around the face or on the entire head, depending on your desired look.

    • 4). Apply the peroxide directly to the chunks of hair that you wish to highlight. This can be done by either pouring the peroxide from the bottle onto the hair or wetting the fingertips and applying a smaller amount to the hair. More peroxide on the hair will result in lighter highlights.

    • 5). Let the peroxide sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. Follow up with a deep-conditioning treatment to help prevent breakage.

    Natural Highlights

    • 1). Wash and condition the hair before highlighting to remove any styling products. Let the conditioner sit for at least two minutes before rinsing. Repeat if desired.

    • 2). Combine 50 percent peroxide with 50 percent water in a spray bottle.

    • 3). Spray over the entire head and let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. Follow up with a deep-conditioning treatment to help prevent breakage.
