EyeAndEer Most Hyper in First Month of BallHyped

Whew! Time flies when you're having fun.

Well, it's already been a month since we officially launched BallHyped.com, [http://ballhyped.com] and it appears the site's been welcomed into blogosphere with open arms.

Over the first 30 days, we've had some awesome posts from the BH community, so we wanted to thank each and every one of you who took the time to sign up and post.

Our Alexa ranking continues to grow with each and every day, we've been featured on a number of sites such as KillerStartups, so know that the more you contribute the more exposure your posts are getting. And once we start moving out of the beta phase, we'll be able to turn on some of the other features like sorting posts on the homepage by number of votes, revving up comments, the resource sections and guest blog database.

BallHyped.com will go as far as the community wants to take it, and if the past month was any indication, we've got some hyped days ahead of us.

And every month we'll make sure to send out an update on the site, either on the company blog or by email, and be sure to recognize our top posters along the way. We also have some badges for our top contributors in the works, so stay tuned there.

For our first month on the job, Eye And Eer was BallHyped.com's top contributor with 13 posts.

For those who haven't checked out Eye and Eer, EyeAndEerBlog.com and @eyeandeer, it's one of the most well written college football blogs you'll read. EAE focuses largely on Western Virginia and Ohio State - which is where the two main contributors went to school. Tom Perry (WVU) and Phil Shie (OSU) are also former sportswriters and editors, so their writing is always clean and clever... which is a tough combination to come by on the web these days.

But get this: their writing might not even be the best part of their blog. Tom and Phil also produce the Eye and Eer Podcast, which is available for free on their site.

"Phil and I started Eye And Eer as a podcast only," Perry said. "We loved the idea of talking about college football once a week. We've both covered the game as reporters and have since moved on with our careers. However, quickly after starting the podcast we both realized we needed a way to promote it better, as well as, keep our name out in front of people more regularly than once a week.

"So we started the blog in September of 2008. Like any blogger, we have had our ups and downs and sometimes it seems like a lot of work for very little return. But we have sort of hit our stride and the move to the Bloguin group has been an outstanding move."

EAE is part of the Bloguin sports blog network, which is another one of our favorites. The Bloguin network hosts more than 125 quality blogs and is a great platform for bloggers who are tired of "amateur designs, lack of functionality, inconsistent content quality, and underperforming advertising programs."

The move to Bloguin has helped bring in additional followers to both their blog and the podcast, and it even brought them some recognition at recent Ohio State game.

"We have a nice following for the podcast, and recently at the Ohio State-Miami football game, we had some fans stop to chat with us," Perry recalled. "That was pretty cool. While Phil is an Ohio State graduate and I'm a WVU graduate (which explains the name Eye And Eer), we don't just focus on those two programs. We are both big college football fans and we wanted to show we could discuss any team and any issue in the game. To pull off a great podcast we feel it's important to show a wide range of knowledge about the game, while being entertaining. For us, we're still working on that entertaining part."

I think those last two sentences are great advice for any sports blogger looking to bring in multimedia to their blogs, which is a great way to boost traffic, followers and extend your reach. (Which reminds me, if you're looking for additional blogger resources and advice like this, ask fellow bloggers in our forum and be sure to check out BallHyped.com's blogger resource page.)

Thanks to EyeAndEerBlog and the Bloguin sports blog network for their considerable contributions over the past month.

Below, you'll find a list of all our contributors in our season-opening month. Consider it our spring training, as we have so many ideas for the site we don't even know where to start.

Thanks again to everyone who checked out the site and helped contribute to this great community - you know who you are. Smitty, Smuddy, RK, the WCBias Team, ReadandReact.net, SBNation.com and its bloggers, Fanster.com, have all been huge.

This has been the most rewarding month I've had in this business.

Please continue getting hyped with us, and spread the word about the site to your fellow sports fans and bloggers.
