How to Determine the Direction of Wind Speed

    • 1). Write the four directions (i.e. north, south, east, west) on the bottom of a small paper plate.

    • 2). Cut two small triangles from the poster board.

    • 3). Use tape to attach the triangles to the ends of the straw.

    • 4). Insert the straight pin in the center of the straw and onto the eraser end of the pencil.

    • 5). Push the lead of the pencil through the center of the paper plate.

    • 6). Place the bottom of the other paper plate on top of the plate with the directions written on it and insert the small rocks between the two plates. Glue the plates together.

    • 7). Once the glue has dried, take the plates outside and place them in an area that is unobstructed by any objects. The wind direction can then be determined by looking at which direction the triangles are pointing.
