How to Create a Map With Dots

    • 1). Once you find your map, save the image to your computer. If you want a map of a specific area, type the address into a map website and search for the map. Once you find the map, zoom in or out until the map displays the region you would like. Press "Ctrl" and "PrtSc" at the same time. This will copy your map to a clipboard.

    • 2). Open your image-editing software and load your map into it. If you simply saved the picture of your map to your computer, open the "File" menu, click on "Open" and browse for your saved image. Once you find your image, double click on it and it will load into the editing software. If you used the print screen option to copy a detailed map, create a new canvas in the editing software and press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the map into window.

    • 3). Crop the image to your liking. If you used the print screen option, you will have to crop your photo so that only the map is showing. When you print screen, you print the entire screen, including the browser bar and the toolbar. Resize the map to make it larger or smaller. The resize tool will be in the "Tools" menu of your image editor.

    • 4). Put your dots onto your map. You may want to make dots at specific companies, restaurants, homes or landmarks. To make your dot, use a paint blotch tool, a pencil tool, or a simple circle tool. If you want your dots to be a specific color for each location, you will have to change colors before you make your dot. To change color, choose your tool, and then choose the color you would like to use. You can also choose what size you would like your dots to be by selecting the size of your paint blotch, pencil mark or circle before marking the dot.

    • 5). Save your file to your computer once you're satisfied with the map.
