How to Cut an Angle in Wood for Ramps
- 1). Draw out your ramp design on a piece of paper with a pen. Draw the ramp size to scale, measuring each part as necessary. Identify the various pieces of wood that will be necessary to assembly the design. Determine the size specifications for each piece, including any cut angles.
- 2). Assemble your miter or table saw to operate it. Keep plenty of space around the tool so that you don’t trip on any power cables or equipment nearby when moving around.
- 3). Set the specific angle on the table saw or miter using the angle-setting knobs on the tool. Choose the appropriate degree by spinning or twisting the adjustment knob until the dial reader reaches the desired angle degree. Lock the saw into place so that it won’t flop and move when sawing.
- 4). Place a fresh wood beam on the saw table or miter table. Position where you want the saw to cut into the wood. Mark the wood with a pencil if it helps you remember the cutting point.
- 5). Put on gloves and goggles for safety. Turn the saw on and firmly move it into the wood. Allow the saw blade to bite in and cut the wood. Cut the saw all the way through so that there are no hanging wood pieces.
- 6). Pull the saw blade back up into its resting position. Turn the power off. Pull the wood beam from the saw table and brush it off. Fit the piece into your ramp assembly to confirm the cut was made correctly.
- 7). Repeat steps 1 through 6 for each piece of your ramp that requires a specific angle cut to assemble the ramp frame.
