How to Convert a Word Document to an Excel File

Open the Microsoft Word program on your computer. If you have Microsoft Word 2007 or above, select the Microsoft icon in the top left corner. If you have a version older than 2007, select "File." If you have a document already created, in both cases select "Open." Select the file that you wish to convert to Excel. That file will appear in the Word window. - 2). Now that you have your Word document open, open the Excel program. If you have Microsoft Word 2007 or above, select the Microsoft icon in the top left corner. If you have a version older than 2007, select "File." Regardless of the version that you have, you need to select "New" to create a new spreadsheet. Select "blank spreadsheet." A blank spreadsheet will open up.
- 3). You are now ready to transfer your Word document into Excel. Go to your Word document. If you are using a version older than 2007, select "Edit" and then "Select All." Select "Copy" also under the "Edit" tab. If you have a version that is 2007 or newer, go to the far right of the navigation bar under the "Home" tab. Choose "Select All" and then choose "Copy" which is at the opposite end of the navigation bar under the "Home" tab.
- 4). Go to your Excel spreadsheet. If you are using a version older than 2007, go to the "Edit" tab and select "Paste." If your version is 2007 or above, select "Paste" at the far left side at the top of the navigation bar. Your document will appear in the space. If your Word document includes formatting that you do not want, select "Paste Special" and then select "Text." This will just paste the content of the document.
